RONALD E. DOEL is in 2006-07 a fellow at the Tanner Humanities Center of the University of Utah, and a Visiting Associate Professor in its Department of History. He is Associate Professor of History of Science in the Program in History of Science (Department of History) at Oregon State University, and holds a joint appointment in its Department of Geosciences. His current book projects include a study of military patronage and the rise of the physical environmental sciences in America, and a study of photographs as evidence in writing the history of modern science, co-written with Pamela M. Henson (Smithsonian Institution). He is co-editor, with Thomas Söderqvist, of The Historiography of Contemporary Science, Technology, and Medicine: Writing Recent Science (Routledge, 2006).
