BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE:
Allan Roy Mackintosh (1936-1995). Mackintosh was educated at the University of

contributions, particularly to the understanding of the electrical
and magnetic properties of the rare earths. He was also
instrumental in promoting European cooperation in physics, and
as director of the Danish Atomic Energy Research
Establishment at Risø, from 1971 to 1976, he was a major force in
Danish science policy and a prolific contributor to the public
debate about nuclear power.
